Pronounced Kam-Boo-Kaa, this seaweed tea is known in the USA as the wonder drink. The Chinese consider it the "Immortal Health Elixir" also known as the mushroom tea - although it is not a mushroom. Originating in Northeast China the Kombucha culture, made of mostly bacteria and yeast, is fermented from a species of yeast, active enzymes, organic acids and microbes. Sounds gross right? Looks yucky hun?

No pun intended but, It's jarring to look at [left image] unless you purchase it in a pretty package [center and right image]. No sugar or sweet taste here so don't expect that. If you're a kombucha virgin, once you get past the aesthetic and the taste which I liken to vinegar, the detoxification benefits are worth your pallet being momentarily uncomfortable. According to Dr. Brent Bauer of the Mayo Clinic health benefit claims are cancer prevention, immune system stimulation and improved liver function. On the flip side some negative side effects reported have been: allergic reactions, diarrhea, and breakouts. These "side effects" have been reported to disappear after a few days because the body is simply reacting to the new elements being introduced to the system. And when toxins are festering in the body our system needs to push toxins out.
This beverage has a very particular taste for a very particular pallet. It took ME a minute but now I embrace Kombucha. You should embrace it too!
