I never realized how many films have touched on the subject of stroke.  Maybe because I have first hand experience my ears are keen to be aware of the subject.  Here is on funny quote and several films that either reference or are about stroke:

"It's possible that I'm gonna have a stroke and they're gonna find the words I TOLD YOU SO  blocking the blood to my brain!" - Mad Money

  1. Say It Isn't So, Comedy- Story line (B), Richard Jenkins' character has a debilitating stroke and Sally Fields' character, his wife, couldn't be more annoyed to have to care for him.
  2. Legends of the Fall, Drama- Story line (C), Anthony Hopkins' character has a debilitating stroke
  3. The Age of Innocence, Period Drama - A mention in order to move the story forward, the "Granny" character has a stroke.
  4. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, True story Drama - this film is about the true story about the editor of Elle France Magazine having a crippling stroke in 1995 and how he dictates his memoir [having the same name as the film], describing the aspects of his interior world, by blinking the letters of each word in dictation with only his left eye, which was the only part of his body not paralyzed by stroke.  He was 43 years old when this happened.  He passed in 1997 two days after his book was published.
  5. Where the Money Is, Drama - Paul Newman's character, a legendary bank robber, has a massive stroke while in prison.

I know it seems hard sometimes but remember one thing, through every dark night, there's a bright day after that.  So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out, keep ya head up...and handle it."  Tupac Shakur-

... that's what I do!

  1. My step-mom, aka Mother Theresa, lives with my dad 11 houses away from me. She is the survivor of a major stroke at her brain stem that left her first totally paralyzed (except her eyes) and has debilitated both sides of her body almost equally. She's come back a long way, but she is challenged to say the least.

Years ago I saw a movie called Flawless, starring Deniro and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, where-in part of the plot evolves around DeNiro's stroke recovery. It's a weird, but funny movie involving crime, stroke, and drag queens....but I love it. Hoffman teaches Deniro to speak by teaching him to sing (!) It was pretty interesting and entertaining. If the drag queen thing doesn't bother you, you may want to watch it. Deniro and Hoffman are brilliant in it.
