Silly of me to think that I ... [A La Denise Williams]

So for the next few weeks I have my peeps visiting from the south east, My mom and one of her oldest and dearest friends Sarah. They are excited to be in LA and want to do so much - which is fine. I realize that being unemployed and having folks in town is not the move when you don't prepare.

What do I do?

We're running out of free events and are swiftly approaching having to spend money, like on food. I am so unprepared to have guests, you see they want to eat everyday, sometimes several times a day. LOL! The nerve. If I had children I'd be used to the demands of empty stomachs and would be creative enough to oblige. But needing to be creative on the spot, THAT will take some mental maneuvering so off I go looking to be inspired on how to fill the stomachs of two grow folks from the south who eat buttermilk pancakes, fried chicken, biscuits, salted meats and sweet tea. While I am currently on a raw food program drinking rice milk, having salads and filling my hunger with Kangen water and supplemental boosts. I know they are saying things like, "Lord this chile dun moved to California and got brand new on us. She don't eat nuthin'. Maybe she needs to move back home," etc.

Sarah, mom's friend, looked at me with a crooked eye telling me how thin I am and wanting to feed me all day long. She says things like, "Girl, you need to eat! No wonder you're so skinny." With the thickest most precious country accent you can imagine. But I love her and aim to please. Mom is cool, she is adjusting to my eating habits with grace. Parents are more supportive I guess. However I want to please her palate too.

If I were more prepared I could have avoided these comments and conversations but my bad. I'm a freelancer living in LA, the artists life. I forgot how to prepare for family as guests. Being unemployed, I didn't think to go to Albertsons the day before to fill my fridge with southern delicacies. I foolishly thought I could just wing it. I thought I could persuade them to adjust to my way of eating [only when you're hungry]. And then impress them with my newly acquired vegetarian acumen. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Silly of you as quoted by the classic Denise Williams song :-). If you're not familiar with the song Silly by Denise Williams, please click on the song on my playlist and enjoy! Although it is about a woman trying to attain the affections of a man who is not interested, the chorus is to what I am referring, where Denise sings Ooo, Ooo, Silly over and over again with a sweet melodic cadence.

Maybe for dinner I can prepare curried and jasmine rice dishes, saute some onions with tofu and a side of hearty dark green salad, mix it up with lentils. Maybe for lunch I can make large fruit salads. Maybe for breakfast I can make large vats of egg whites with soy cheese and toast some Ezekiel bread and smear it with organic butter with organic jelly. Yeah that will fill them up every day. Well now I'm off to Albertsons and Trader Joe's.

I guess that I should be embarrassed but ... Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooooo silly ... of me.

Stay tuned for my resolution and wish me well, I don't want Sarah to talk about me too bad.
