[Not so] Silent Saturdays - Poetry purge

I find myself in unfamiliar territory all around. I'm trying my hand at poetry, which I haven't written since junior high school.  That was many moons ago.  And I don't normally feel this type of creativity but going out on a limb so here goes:

Unfamiliar Territory
Our reigning TV queen has a two year plan

After 2011 off the air
Many will ask, "Who will I watch, what do I do?"  They'll think,
In unfamiliar territory, I find that I am

Throughout my life til' now job favor I had in hand
Back then, before the stroke I had a plan, early retirement
I was flowing...
Now, day 436 no prospects, I'm worried
I can't get arrested in this town, I've asked around,
No conjecture
In unfamiliar territory, I find that I am

I have a life to live, responsibilities
A reputation to uphold
No plan, no husband-man
I'm flowing blindly, yes it's bold
Independent from my family clan

Became ill against my will, three years and counting
Now handicapped, maybe I frighten?
In which direction do I turn; what skills can I learn?
to continue flowing...

Is there a book; where's the answer; on what page?
I'm approaching middle age.
I need answers, I am afraid!!!
Who am I to be?
I'm in my 40's are you kidding me,
Start over?

What will be my destiny?
From my view, for Miss 'O' it was easy
It's vital to have a plan
In this position you don't ever want be...
Now where is my identity?
In unfamiliar territory - I find that - I am

Well, it's not quite finished I'd really like to end this powerfully on a positive.  The words will come to me later I guess.  Please share your thoughts, I can use them.  Thanks for indulging me on my first attempt.  Have a great Saturday!

  2. Kudos on your first poetry attempt! I like it. I hope that you find some comfort in expressing your feelings in this creative way. I know that the poetry I write is helping me a lot. One day at a time, Dale. That's all we can do. I admire your grit and determination to not be beaten down! Hugs to you!

  4. The poem is excellent though the content is heart-wrenching. I can almost feel the emotions you are going through. You sure are increasing your life-endurance. God must have a wonderful plan for you!

BTW, I love all the blog embellishments and the nav bar. I am really digging the font that was used. Looks like the exact font that was used for the word 'Breathe' in your header. As you can tell, I really like fonts.

  5. You have powerful things to say, Dale, and this piece is no different. So many will be able to identify with this. Thank you for sharing it.

I sense a pioneer's soul in you, so I'd like to suggest the following: Don't be nervous about stepping out there with whatever you have to offer, in whatever form you have in which to offer it. No matter what it is, if it's honest and feeds your soul, it doesn't matter if others like it or not. Writing, in any form, can be cathartic.

That being said, reread paragraph #1. ;)
